are not a tourist area; it is the hinterland of Umbria and Tuscany. The landscape is very similar to that of Tuscany, however there are no cypresses.
You can enjoy the sun on the long sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast. The seaside resorts MAROTTA and SENIGALLIA are found at a 27 kilometre's drive from the house. You can take walks in the Apennines, where in summer it is sultry summery weather and in winter the cutting Tramontana is blowing. Everywhere in the sur- roundings you can enjoy visiting castles, palazzi, churches, squares and museums.
It is the country of the truffles, especially the white ones, and the Pecorino cheeses. Also the Verdicchio wines are from this region. The olive oil is of an excellent quality and is lavishly used in the The Marches cooking, offering a choice of local dishes with, especially at the coast, delicious fish specialities.
From the house it is easy to reach the cities worth visiting. PESARO, the town of Rossini, is famous for its opera festivals. In ANCONA, at a forty-minutes' drive, with the old defensive works at the harbour you can take a walk by following a marked out walking tour leading you to all the famous and old buildings with as the literally highest point the Cathedral, the building of which was finished in 1189 in a Byzantine-Roman style.
URBINO is also worth while a visit with the Palazzo Ducale of the enlightened ruler Federigo da Montefeltro who wanted to found the ideal city after the divine model.

UNESCO has meanwhile turned this into a WORLDHERITAGESITE. You will also find the hole there of Urbinos most famous resident: RafaŽl.
In FABRIANO with its recently restored city centre a famous papermaking industry came into existence as far back as the 14th century. In particular the ministate SAN MARINO with its castle towering high above the surroundings is worth visiting as well as the beautiful historic town of CAGLI situated in the former dukedom of Montefeltro.
A visit to the impressive caves of FRASASSI is recommendable as well as a daytrip to RAVENNA (at a ninety minutes' drive from CASTELLEONE) and with a passe-partout you can visit the churches in the town with their breathtakening mosaics. Cities like PERŕGIA, GŕBBIO and ASSISI are not far away.
